What is Bird watching ?
Staking out in the wild to identify and track birds, that is the essence of
bird watching. You have to spot a bird in its natural habitat and then try to
discover its identity. It’s not tough to bird watch. Just keep your eyes and
ears open. Carry a powerful pair of binoculars, a notebook and a pen, and plenty
of patience on your bird watching holiday.
Where to go ?
So your backyard isn’t exactly avian paradise, especially when you live in a
choking metropolis. So, head for the hot spots such as Kaziranga National Park
in Assam, Bannerghatta National Park near Bangalore in Karnataka, Corbett
National Park in Uttaranchal.
The Keoladeo Ghana National Park in Rajasthan is a popular haunt of bird
watchers. During winter, people throng the sanctuary to catch a glimpse of
migratory birds such as the Siberian cranes. Kokrebellur and Ranganthittu in
Karnataka, Gir National Park in Gujarat, and Nandankanan in Orissa are other
popular destinations.
What you need to know ?
Birds flock to a water source, such as a lake, river or even a sewage
treatment facility, so that’s where you need to head out. Otherwise, try the
nearest national park or wildlife sanctuary.
What you must carry ?
All you really need are your eyes and ears! Anyway, get a powerful set of
binoculars before setting out on your bird watching holiday. Pack clothing that
will help you to blend with your surroundings.
