Metrological Department have sounded alert in coastal areas of Tamil Nadu as cyclone Nisha may hit the region by afternoon.
There were reports of heavy rains with gusty winds since tuesday, and places near Chennai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur and Tiruvarur have been evacuated and almost 3500 people have moved to safer places.
Winds with a spped of 67 Km per hours were reported from Rameswaram and cyclone is expected to cross Tamil Nadu coast between Nagapattinam and Pamban on Wednesday night.
Low pressure have been marked over northern pats of Sri Lanks and adjoining southwest Bay.
